Part -2

Passion often faces obstacles – be it self-doubt, external pressures, myths, or misconceptions. Remember, every setback is a setup for a comeback.

By recognizing the truth behind these myths, you'll foster a positive mindset that propels you further on your passionate journey. In the previous blog, we revealed the truth behind the myth of the movement of veganism. Still, there are many more, some of them are-

Veganism is not safe for children to follow

Some concerns may arise regarding whether children can thrive on a vegan diet. The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics notes that well-planned vegetarian and vegan diets are healthy, nutritionally adequate, and appropriate for all stages of the life cycle, including infancy, childhood, pregnant mothers, and adults.

A well-balanced plant-based diet contains more fiber, which is an important nutrient lacking in the diet of many people. The American Academy of Pediatrics states that eating a plant-based diet can be a beneficial choice for the whole family.

Eating soy increases the risk of cancer

Contrary to the negative soy information floating about, it is an excellent source of protein, especially when it replaces other i.e. less healthy foods such as animal fats and red or processed meats.

Even though experts from the American Cancer Society declare that soy is perfectly safe for both women and men to consume. So far, the evidence does not point to any dangers from eating soy in people, and the health benefits appear to outweigh any potential risks. There is growing evidence that greater intake of soy foods such as tofu and soy milk is linked to a decrease in the risk of breast cancer, prostate cancer, and cardiovascular disease.

Do vegans consume enough calories?

There's a misconception that vegans may not get enough calories. This misconception is usually prompted by the myth that vegans can’t achieve all the nutrients they need for good health and that their diet is too restricted. It's just like any diet; a vegan one can be unhealthy and leave us feeling unsatisfied and low on energy if not properly planned and balanced.

Being vegan is restrictive and too hard

Some people think that veganism is restrictive in nature and hard to follow. But in actuality, when we try to go away from our habits mostly in food habits that are too comfy and habitual, it becomes painful to leave and change ourselves. Many people are accustomed to eating certain foods and they cannot separate themselves from the tasty cuisines.

For a new vegan or someone deciding to go vegan, it may seem quite a task to read the ingredients behind food items and cosmetics or to enquire about clothing fabric while shopping. But gradually these initiatives turn into new habits and empower one to be able to make a quick choice.

It is very easy to switch to plant-based eating and get the same taste from vegan food. For some, reminding themselves of the sufferings of animals for human consumption can make their journey easier.

One vegan cannot make a difference

A vegan lifestyle is a personal journey and no one expects you to change overnight. Just start it, go slowly, and make small progress each day.

Individuals forget the power they hold. One vegan can inspire so many other vegans, and non-vegans and create a ripple effect. This ripple effect will not just give the boost the vegan movement needs but also create more demand for vegan foods and alternatives. So, yes one vegan can make a lot of difference.

Veganism is a mere trend that will fade eventually

It is better to contemplate not how long veganism will ‘last’; but how long we can make it last, to the day it is similar to the new normal.

Have you noticed that grocery stores, restaurants, and fast-food chains are all adding vegan options to their menu? Do you know why?

It’s because of “Demand”. It’s not a ‘fade’. Veganism is a way of life that is growing as more and more people learn the truth about the horrors of factory farming, how it’s depleting our natural resources, and how meat causes a whole list of health issues.

An Oxford study looked at vegan, vegetarian, and standard recommended diets and concluded that a vegan diet saved more lives and was better for the planet. All evidence suggests veganism is the future.

As more awareness is spreading globally, Veganism is replacing animal food products with plant-based products. The new way of eating lifestyle has also given room for speculation and assumptions. These myths around veganism are getting busted as people are accepting and getting to know more about the vegan diet and vegan food products.

Ultimately, feeding 10 billion people a healthy diet within safe planetary boundaries is possible and will improve the health and well-being of billions of people. This could allow us to pass on to our children a viable planet. But this is not going to be easy, and it will take the engagement of almost everyone.

There are many misconceptions out there that will hold you back from leaping and making a lifestyle change. But all you need is that one compelling reason that drives you every day.
