Mother Earth, “the blue gem”, is not merely a planetary entity; it is a living, breathing organism that supports the complicated web of life.
The beauty of Mother Earth lies in her diversity. From the water we drink to the air we breathe, the fertile soil that is necessary for agriculture, and the climate that regulates temperatures, all these are the foundation of life and earth provides us all these essential resources for life, sustenance, and well-being, much like a nurturing mother.
Living on Mother Earth is one of the things humans and all other animals have in common, and all have equal rights to live. There is a strong connection between turning vegan and showing love and respect for Mother Earth and everything she offers.
Our demands are causing the suffering of billions of animals raised and killed for food, and the meat and dairy industries are destroying the Earth. Whether you agree or not, just to fulfill the so-called demands, increases animal agriculture, which is the major source of global warming pollution.
Animal agriculture is responsible for 18% of greenhouse gas emissions, which is more than combined exhaust from all transportation. And around 2500 gallons of water are needed to produce 1lb of beef. Animal agriculture is the leading cause of species extinction, ocean dead zones, water pollution, and habitat destruction, which is a serious strain on our land. All these issues are the reason behind climate change.
A recent United Nations report concluded that a global shift towards a vegan diet is necessary to combat the worst effects of climate change.
Other research showed that vegan diets resulted in 75% less climate-heating emissions, water pollution, and land use than diets in which more than 100g of meat a day was eaten. Vegan diets also cut the destruction of wildlife by 66% and water use by 54%, the study found.
The word vegan can sound scary to a lot of people. I know what you might be thinking about meat and dairy products. You love the taste and think you need it to survive, for protein, and will be malnourished without it. We all have heard it, and I did not expect you to be vegan overnight.
The urge for compassion, sustainability, equitable distribution of resources, and to protect the vulnerable, the voiceless; we begin the change by changing ourselves and moving into effective social change. Such as-
- Consuming plant-based alternatives instead of meat will reduce the demand for land for grazing and feed crop cultivation, helping to protect forests and wildlife habitats.
- Supporting sustainable farming practices and choosing plant-based foods encourages environmentally friendly agricultural methods.
- Choosing plant-based protein sources like tofu or legumes in place of fish contributes to the sustainable use of marine resources.
“Humans have the responsibility to respect Mother Nature and all she takes care of…
Give Mother Earth a break – choose plants, not meat, for a planet that's truly sweet!"
Taking care of our planet is not just an act. It is a necessity in today’s times, and living a vegan lifestyle is a small step taken on the right path. It reflects a commitment to compassion and reducing the demand for industries that exploit animals.
So far, we have not been great at doing this, but people are becoming more aware of the damage already caused by humans. Taking care of Mother Earth involves actions and choices that promote ecological balance, biodiversity, and the overall health of the planet. It encompasses practices such as sustainable agriculture, responsible consumption, waste reduction, and conservation of natural habitats.
By acknowledging the Earth as a nurturing force, individuals and societies are encouraged to show some appreciation for the planet by making an effort to protect the environment and the ecosystems within it.
Sustainability in today’s times is not about doing less harm, it is about doing more good than harm. To have a sustainable lifestyle, adopt practices that benefit you and the world around you, instead of destroying it for your benefit.
“Humanity is on thin ice — and that ice is melting fast…
Our world needs climate action on all fronts — everything, everywhere, all at once.”
If humanity doesn’t change how we treat our planet, our world and future will soon suffer irreparable damage. The choices and actions implemented in this decade will have impacts for thousands of years.
Our every little gesture, every little step - no matter how small it is, can lead to a profound change over time. We are all connected, and our steps today will ensure a safe, secure, and eco-friendly environment for the coming generations.
Taking care of our planet starts with us, and it starts TODAY.
